9/15/2020 ~ DJ v. Field, Winged Foot, and Tiger blood?
5 ~
5 Favorites to win the week at the U.S. Open
DJ - I mean you can’t pick against him right now. He is so hot right now.
John Rahm - I know not too creative, but Rahmbo is a machine.
JT - Hey, they are top-3 in the world for a reason.
Xander Schauffle - On the verge, time to break through!
Tony Finau - He is soooo good and sooooo close it seems every week, it has got to happen at some point, right?

The Open! - Three months later, US Open week is finally upon us. It’s at Winged Foot, the home of Phil’s most famous Real-Life-Tin-Cup moment, and though I don’t know if Phil will be in a position to give us an another 2006 ending, I still fully expect some incredible moments. With the difficulty of this course, USGA setups in general, the gun-slinger attitudes of current superstars, there are going to be A LOT of “oh shit” shots both good and bad. Above I listed my picks and honestly at this moment I do not see how DJ is not the top of everyone’s list to win (barring a broken wrist from hitting out of the rough this week, or another “fall” down the stairs.) He is absolutely dominating the tour right now and every aspect of his game is clicking. Regardless of who is on top it’s going to be a badass event.
Tiger 16/83? - Unfortunately, I don’t see it this week. Nobody knows how to dial it up, nobody knows better what it takes to win a major, and historically nobody has ever brought it more on the big stage than the Big Cat. He is the best ever without question - Come at me Golden Bear Boys! That said…with the unusual circumstances of this year; Tiger’s injury issues early; COVID; limited event schedule; I just don’t see it happening this week. He is, and will continue to be a threat, no matter what and if somehow he finds a way to win at Winged Foot it wouldn’t be the least bit shocking. But I just can’t pick him. Number 16/83 may come in early November (fingers crossed for back-to-backs!), but not this weekend.
Big Bad Broken Brooksy - Two-time champ and America’s Most Humble Man - Brooks Koepka will not be gracing us with his presence this year. With the amount of talent that now resides on the PGA tour will this really be that big of a blow? I mean for me personally, he is a great player, but unless this was the week he finally came to blows with Bryson then I don’t think the story lines with be hurting much. There is so much talant that one star does not fill the whole sky. The problem with the peak of Tiger’s game was that if Tiger wasn’t there than no one really cared about the event. Thanks to Tiger, the game has grown so much that we can miss a star like Brooks occasionally and not blink.
Less is more - This season was insane, you can’t argue that. Everybody is ready for this year to pass because, my god, there is no way 2021 can be worse, right? Right?! That said, as a golf fan, despite the horror of the 3-month lay off, this was a hell of a season. The restart brought us some incredible golf and a ton of great finishes. Events that normally house the B-Squad were packed with the top guys and made each week a must watch. Should the tour go to a lighter schedule in the future? Less tournaments, does that automatically equate to better fields? Does it make the players hungier when they do play? As much as I like golf every second of every day, would our world come to a halt if the Barracuda Championship ceased to exist? Whats your take on it?
