10/29/20 - Spooky SZN, Hoodrats, and GOOOOOALS!

Quint upon seeing Bryson’s 208 swing speed: “I think we’re going to need a bigger course”

5~ My Scariest Movies

  1. Contagion - 2020 basically made this a documentary - hits a little too close to home these days.

  2. Fire in the Sky - Come on man…The true story ad campaign had us all afraid ET was coming to probe our holes.

  3. Blockers or any of those Teen Sex movies - I have daughters who are going to be, or are already, teenagers, this is what I have to look forward to.

  4. Blue Collar Comedy Tour - The may be scarier foreshadowing of 2020 then Contagion, this may have to move up to #1.

  5. Jaws - Sorry, I still can’t get into a swimming pool for a few days after this Spielberg epic. Just imagine if the shark turned into a tornado..oh wait that happened too.

Rory running down the 18th at Augusta to grab his green jacket…It’ll look sweet with a grey hoodie underneath.

4~

  1. BoyZ in the Hoodies - Golf hoodies are becoming a new trend and I am completely behind it. Who doesn’t love rocking a hoodie? Here in the mitten state it is an actual state of being. I mean, every year I can’t wait for “Hoodie season” to start - it is the basic-bitch version of pumpkin spice, but for guys. It may be the best article fo clothing ever invented. Now golf designers are jumping in on the trend and embracing it, and I couldn’t be more excited if I was playing Augusta.

So of course, here come the Goodole’ boys club to chime in and ban this outerwear as not appropriate for their courses. Come on, are you fucking serious!? Why can’t these dinosaurs let go of the past? Its a new era and guys like Rory and Hatton are making tennis shoes and a hoodie look cooler than your argyle sweaters and pleated pants (No offense Vhelm). Embrace the change and the direction that golf is heading in and lets start eroding away the “Gentleman’s game” crap.

    2. Men in Tights - This past weekend has been the best trip to Sherwood Forest since Carey Elwes taught us the valor of men in tights. A 7000-yard splash fest where a pair of 68s meant you missed the cut. I know, I know…everyone loves it when they “look just like us” (which they don’t...ever btw), but I love a birdie-fest tournament every once in a while. I mean, Rahmbo and JT in the final group, both guys were looking for the win and there was a real possibility of a 63 out there. A one-upper battle with a ton of great names in tow. 15 guys within 5 shots of the lead and there were some silly scores lurking. The drama of the big boys making big mistakes and P-Cant cut them mugs and brought home one of the coolest looking trophies in the game!

Slessor, Brad, Vhelm, and I at last year’s Fall Classic - Always a good kick off into the season of numb hands, losing balls under leaves, and shorter days.

3. Fall Ball - Aerated greens suck and losing balls in the middle of the fairway amongst the leaves is one of the most frustrating things ever…BUT aside from that fall golf is amazing. Especially in Michigan, where is seems like courses just look and feel different once the leaves start turning and falling. Its the essence of Michigan golf. Needing to consider the elements is such a fun part of the game, despite the occasional 4 iron stinger that ensures you wont be able to feel the club in your hand for the next 3 holes. What’s your favorite fall golf course?

4. Gooooooals! - Golf is never truly done, even in Michigan. The second the temps peak back up over 30, you know Vhelm is out there lacing up his fuzzy winter boots to hit to frozen greens with no pins in. But sadly for the vast majority of us in Michigan, Halloween typically means the end of the season. Its always a good time for reflection. How was this season for you guys? Did you meet your 2020 goal, did you even make any? 2020 was a horrible year in almost every way possible, for me the only highlight was the golf season. I hit many of my goals and gained some positive momentum going into next year. I look forward to setting my new list and continuing to tackle what I didn’t accomplish this year. Here is to hoping 2021 is even better, both on and off the course! What goals are you guys setting for next year?

Round of the Week: A chilly solo round at St. Clair Golf Club trying to battle through the leaves and mud to break 80…spoiler alert: I didnt…

Bonus 5 ~ Favorite Halloween Costumes:

My deprived childhood (wahwah) and lack of creativity led me to always having the most generic and uninspired costumes, except for my spot on Darryl Hall one year. In the comments let me know your top costumes or upload them to our IG account and we will post them.
